Burton DRYRIDE: A woman with dark hair wearing a gray beanie and a colorful Burton snowboarding jacket carries a snowboard.

DRYRIDE Materials, Textile Treatments, and Accessories

Burton DRYRIDE is our performance standard for waterproof-breathable ski and snowboard outerwear and it encompasses a range of textiles and performance textile treatments. DRYRIDE and DRYRIDE Ultrawick are the two textiles that we use to construct waterproof-breathable outerwear and performance base layers, respectively.

Burton DRYRIDE (formerly Durashell)

Waterproof-breathable Burton outerwear that adheres to the DRYRIDE standard is constructed using our DRYRIDE laminated membrane and features the following technical qualities.

  • 2-layer, 2.5-layer, or 3-layer waterproof-breathable laminated construction
  • Minimum 10k/5k waterproof/breathability rating (up to a maximum of 20k/20k)
  • Long-lasting and durable HeiQ C0/PFC-free durable water-repellant (DWR) finish

Pro tip: Perfluorinated compounds, also known as PFCs, have been used for decades to help increase the moisture-shedding qualities of waterproof garments. But these chemicals are bad for our planet and that's why Burton is transitioning to C0, PFC-free DWR treatments. Burton DRYRIDE Ultrawick

Burton DRYRIDE Ultrawick base layers are designed using the best moisture-wicking fabrics and feature anti-odor treatments. When worn next to the skin, UItrawick base layers quickly transport sweat away from your body, keeping you drier and more comfortable. DRYRIDE Ultrawick base layers feature the following technical qualities.

  • Bluesign®-approved fabrics
  • GRS-certified recycled polyester (Burton adult base layers)
  • HeiQ Smart Temp & HeiQ Fresh performance treatments (on X-series base layers)

Burton DRYRIDE Textile Treatments: Mist-Defy, HeiQ Smart Temp, HeiQ Fresh, HeiQ Eco-Dry

The Burton DRYRIDE standard incorporates high-performance fabric treatments to elevate performance and reliability. These treatments include Mist-Defy, HeiQ Smart Temp, HeiQ Fresh, and HeiQ Eco-Dry.

  • Mist-Defy: Mist-Defy is a C0/PFC-free DWR treatment applied to non-laminated technical apparel, like our water-resistant Crown Hoodies.
  • HeiQ Smart Temp: HeiQ Smart Temp is a dynamic thermo-regulating treatment that powers our Living Lining™ and X Base Layer garments, enhancing wicking and evaporative cooling performance.
  • HeiQ Fresh: HeiQ Fresh is a treatment applied to DRYRIDE Ultrawick designated items, including Living Lining and X Base Layer garments. It’s a non-biocide, bio-based anti-odor treatment.
  • HeiQ Eco-Dry: HeiQ Eco-Dry is a C0-PFC-free DWR treatment applied to all Burton DRYRIDE 2-layer, 2.5-layer, and 3-layer laminated outerwear. It’s a bio-based, extremely durable DWR finish that helps prevent “wet-out” of snowboard jackets, snow pants, and bib pants by causing water to bead up and roll off before it can be absorbed by face fabrics.

Pro tip: Swiss-made HeiQ fabric treatments help Burton deliver the highest performance standards, keeping Burton Team athletes and everyday riders warm and dry.

Q: What is Burton DRYRIDE?
A: Burton DRYRIDE is our performance standard. Any Burton snowboarding gear that features DRYRIDE performance textiles or textile treatments is guaranteed to keep you drier, warmer, and on the mountain longer.

Q: Is Burton DRYRIDE a specific product?
A: Burton DRYRIDE is not a specific product. It’s easier to think of DRYRIDE as an umbrella of products. Anything under that umbrella - that has DRYRIDE identified in its features or technical specifications - offers guaranteed performance regarding waterproof ratings, moisture wicking, odor control, and more. DRYRIDE promises performance on the mountain.

Q: What are the waterproof ratings of Burton DRYRIDE outerwear?
A: Burton DRYRIDE outerwear, including waterproof breathable snowboard jackets, snow pants, and bib pants, feature a minimum 10k/5k waterproof/breathability rating. Some specific Burton collections, like Futuretrust, may be rated up to 20k/20k. For a thorough explanation of waterproof/breathability ratings, read Waterproof vs. Water Resistant: Measuring Waterproof Ratings.

Q: Is Burton DRYRIDE the same as GORE-TEX®?
A: DRYRIDE and GORE-TEX® are not the same thing. DRYRIDE is Burton’s performance standard, and while it includes Burton-branded waterproof breathable outerwear, it is not one specific product. GORE-TEX is a specific product produced by GORE. GORE-TEX is the waterproof breathable membrane used across the Burton [ak] Collection and other select Burton outerwear items.

Q: Does DRYRIDE change the warmth rating of Burton jackets, pants, and bibs?
A: DRYRIDE products promise to keep you warmer, drier, and more comfortable. However, the warmth of any particular jacket is very subjective and will depend on the individual wearing it and the amount and type of insulation the particular item contains. The best way to stay warm while snowboarding is to layer properly, with a base layer, insulating mid layer, and a waterproof shell. Read Winter Layering Tips for All Conditions to learn more.

Q: Is DRYRIDE gear covered by Burton’s warranty?
A: All Burton apparel and outerwear is covered by our industry-leading Limited Lifetime Warranty. Read The Burton Lifetime Warranty Explained to learn more.
